I bought a lovely new cat bed. Fleece lined. Raised sides. Highly reviewed. She looked at it, and then went and slept on the red cushion, as she has every day for seven years. I have moved the red cushion to three different rooms as an experiment. She simply relocates. It is the cushion. It was always the cushion.
