Biscuit met the stairs today and the stairs won
Six months old, four legs, absolutely no plan.
He got up three steps, realised he had no idea how to reverse, and sat down to think about it. He thought about it for a full minute while I filmed. Then he shouted at me until I carried him down.
We have since practised eight more times. He now goes up confidently and still refuses to come down. Any tips gratefully received — preferably ones that do not involve me carrying a retriever downstairs for the next decade.

Both of mine did exactly this. He'll work it out in a week and then you'll miss carrying him.
The sitting-down-to-think bit is so accurate to that age.
Put a treat on the second step from the bottom and let him come down to it. Worked for us.
